Harmonica teachers in Atlanta area

Three of the members of the Atlanta Harmonica Enthusiasts, Matthew Smart, Carlos Capote,  and E Matthew Shelton are also harmonica teachers.

If you've ever tried to find a harmonica teacher, then you know how rare they are - there are only a few in the entire state of Georgia.

One of the unique features of the Atlanta Harmonica Enthusiasts meetings is that we take the time to give instruction to visitors coming to meetings according to their playing level - we've recently started splitting into a beginner's group that goes off with a teacher into another room while the main group stays to do more of that harmonica "thang", you know?

A good harmonica teacher can quite literally take years off of your learning curve, in a very short time (that's if you practice like you're spose-ta, ya know?!)

The main reason for this is that although the harmonica looks simple it really isn't - the instrument is remarkably flexible and versatile and that very flexibility and versatility means that you've got a lot of factors to consider and to get under control before you start sounding any good on the harmonica.

Harmonicas are the world's only inhale-exhale instruments, so it's easy to get to blowing and drawing (that's harmonica language for inhale) with too much force and ruin your tone - that sour tone is one of the marks of a directionless beginner - but it doesn't have to be you.

Then you've got issues with getting good single notes (playing one hole), then getting good bends with the harmonica (a whole 'nother level of playing), so there's really a lot involved here.

Huge percentages of people start to try to learn to play and then give up - there's no need for that - come to the AHE meetings and get some encouragement - schedule some lessons and get on the fast track - you can do it!!
